The rule, as Nevada writes it
Nevada has no blanket bullion exemption, and the treatment turns on PURPOSE rather than on price alone. Under NRS 372.085 and NAC 372.170, coins and bullion are untaxed where the purpose of use is as a medium of exchange, but coins sold at a premium above 50% of face value for any other purpose are taxable — which covers most investment buying. A change is pending: Assembly Bill 359 of the 2025 session puts the question to voters on 3 November 2026, and would exempt coins, currency and bullion from 1 January 2027 if approved. Anything describing Nevada as simply “exempt” today is describing that ballot measure, not current law.
The state rate is 6.85%. Local rates are charged on top of it and are not included here.

What this page cannot tell you
Whether tax is actually charged depends on the dealer, not only on where you live: a retailer collects sales tax in states where they have nexus.
Local city and county rates stack on top of any state rate shown here, and several exemptions cover investment bullion but not jewellery or collectibles sold well above melt.
